MISSION
The State of Florida’s African American History Task Force
is an advocate for Florida’s school districts, teacher education training
centers, and the community at large, in implementing the teaching of the history
of African peoples and the contributions of African Americans to society. The
Task Force works to ensure awareness of the requirements, identify and recommend
needed state education leadership action, assist in adoption of instructional
materials by the state, and build supporting partnerships.
GOALS
Goal 1: Increase awareness of Florida
Statute 1003.42(h) requiring the instruction of the history, culture,
experiences and contributions of Africans and African Americans through the
understanding, appreciation, implementation and the utilization of Florida DOE
resources, which support the law.
Goal 2: Assist appropriate educational
personnel in Florida’s public schools by providing access to preparation and
training initiatives designed to assist them in planning and implementing the
African American history instructional effort in their district or institution.
Goal 3: Assist in the selection of books and
other media in the content areas for state adoption that support the instruction
of African and African American History.
Goal 4: Promote and build community
partnerships that support the development and delivery of African American
History content through the development of instructional guidelines and
standardized framework by assisting in cross-cultural communications and
relations
